Gateway, formerly called LaCaille 8766, is a K7 V or ( M0-2 Ve) red-orange star.
Gateway can be reached from Terminus (2.28 parsec), Seneca (1.2 parsec), Eldoret (1.25 parsec) and Kepler. (1.47 parsec)
Gateway was first reached by explorers from by way of Barnard and Terminus. It was moderately more attractive than the various dim red dwarfs that had been previously explored. It gained its name from the fact that it opened up connections to the Ceti Cluster, a group of potentially rich stars that could be connected by Jump-1 routes. Since it was a minimum six week and more often three month round trip to earth for instruction and decisions, Gateway colonists were nearly from the very beginning somewhat independent-minded and resenteful of earth-based Colonial administration.
