South Africa is one of the 30 most populous countries in the world.

History

Prehistory

Early prehistory including the Pliocene, early Pleistocene, early mid Pleistocene, late mid Pleistocene, and late Pleistocene is poorly known. Middle prehistory including the period beginning 50,000 years ago, the period beginning 40,000 years ago, the period beginning 30,000 years ago, and the period beginning 20,000 years ago can be connected. Late prehistory including the early 8th millennium BC, the late 8th millennium BC, the early 7th millennium BC, the late 7th millennium BC, the early 6th millennium BC, and the late 6th millennium BC can be connected.

Antiquity

I lack information on the 5th millennium BC including the early 5th millennium BC, the early mid 5th millennium BC, the mid 5th millennium BC, the late mid 5th millennium BC, and the late 5th millennium BC.

Modern history

The 16th century is not entirely clear. I do not have information on the early 16th century, early mid 16th century, mid 16th century, late-mid 16th century, or late 16th century. For the 17th century. I do not yet have details on the 17th century including the early 17th century, early-mid 17th century. In the mid 17th century, the first European settlement was established by the Dutch VOC. This grew slowly during the late-mid 17th century, and more rapidly during the late 17th century. I have no details on the 18th century including the early 18th century, early-mid 18th century, mid 18th century, late-mid 18th century. In the late 18th century, Dutch power waned, and the British began attempts to take over the colony.

In the 19th century, it came under British rule. In the early 19th century, the Cape Colony was claimed by Britain in the Napoleonic wars and British started to settle in the country. In the early mid 19th century, there were the Zulu wars. I do not yet have details of the early 1820s, late 1820s, early 1830s, or late 1830s. Many of the Boers moved northward away from English settlement in what is called the Great Trek. In the mid 19th century, The British were fighting with both the Boers and with the Bantu peoples. I do not yet have details of the early 1840s, late 1840s, early 1850s, or late 1850s. In the late mid 19th century, they continued to expand their rule. Diamonds were found and diamond mining began. I do not yet have details of the early 1860s, late 1860s, early 1870s, or late 1870s. In the late 19th century, gold was found and a gold rush started. Late in the century, the Boer war between the British and the Boer settlers began. I do not yet have details of the early 1880s, late 1880s, early 1890s, or late 1890s.

20th century

In the early 20th century, the Boer War was concluded with a British victory, and the Union of South Africa was created. I do not yet have details of the early 1900s, late 1900s, early 1910s, or late 1910s. In the early-mid 20th century, it was effectively granted independence. I do not have specific details of the early 1920s, late 1920s, early 1930s, or late 1930s. I have no information on the mid-20th century including the early 1940s, late 1940s, early 1950s, or late 1950s but in the late-mid 20th century, it began to come under fierce international criticism for its policy of apartheid, the reservation of all political power for the white residents. I do not have details for the early 1960s, late 1960s, early 1970s, or late 1970s.

In the late 20th century, it gave up this policy, though I do not have details for the early 1980s. I do not yet have details for the late 1980s including 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, and 1990. The early 1990s including 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1995 can be considered. I lack details of the late 1990s including 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000.
