Panama is a nation of Central America. History The history of Panama is mostly considered entirely modern, although there are connections with precolumbian peoples. I do not yet have details for the 16th century, 17th century or 18th century. I do not yet have details for the 19th century including the early 19th century. In the early-mid 19th century, there was a movement for independence from Spain, but Panama became part of Colombia. I have no details for the mid 19th century or the late-mid 19th century. In the late 19th century, there was a failed attempt to build a canal across Panama. The 20th century can be connected. In the early 20th century, Panama gained independence from Colombia, and the Panama canal was build. I do not have details of the early mid 20th century or the mid 20th century. In the late-mid 20th century, there was a coup that overthrew the government, but the US nevertheless ceded control of the canal to Panama. In the late 20th century, the US invaded Panama.
