The Netherlands is a nation of Northern Europe HistoryOnly limited information about the Netherlands during prehistory or antiquity is available from archaeological sources. Its recorded history began in classical and medieval times, and is better known for modern times. PrehistoryEarly prehistory can be examined. For Pliocene, early Pleistocene, and early mid Pleistocene times there is no information. The oldest remains so far discovered have been dated to late mid Pleistocene times. I do not yet have information for late Pleistocene times. Middle prehistory including the period beginning 50,000 years ago, the perid beginning 40,000 years ago, and the period beginning 30,000 years ago can be connected. In the period beginning 20,000 years ago there is evidence of human habitation. The 3rd millennium BC can be connected. In the early 3rd millennium BC, Corded ware culture began. I have little information on the early mid 3rd millennium BC. In the 2nd millennium BC, it appears that Bronze age culture began. I know little of early 1st millennium BC including the 10th century BC and the 9th century BC. In about the 8th century BC, the Iron age began. I know little of the 7th century BC. In the 17th century it became a significant international power, rivaling the Portuguese.
