Finland is a nation of Europe. HistoryPrehistory including early prehistory, middle prehistory, and late prehistory can be considered. I know little of antiquity including the 5th millennium BC, 4th millennium BC, 3rd millennium BC, 2nd millennium BC, or early 1st millennium BC. I also have little detail from classical and medieval times. I do not yet have details from early classical, late classical, early medieval, or late medieval times. Its modern history is best known. I do not yet have details for the 16th century, or 17th century. I do not yet have details for the 18th century. In the early 18th century, russians occupied the country in what is known as the Greater Wrath. I do not have details for the early mid 18th century, In the mid 18th century russians again occupied the country in what is known as the Lesser Wrath. In the late-mid 18th century, the Swedish King gustav III reinstated royal power, and in the late 18th century there was an inconclusive war with Russia. I do not yet have many details for the 19th century. In the early 19th century it was annexed by Russia as the Grand Duchy of FInland, and remained part of Russia through the early mid 19th century, mid 19th century, late-mid 19th century, and late 19th century. |

In the 20th century it has been significant. In the early 20th century, it gained independence from Russia, but suffered a bitter civil war. In the early mid 20th century, it engaged in numerous conflicts with Soviet Russia. In the mid 20th century, it was at war with the Soviet Union, and maintained an uneasy truce during the early Cold War. In the late-mid 20th century, this uneasy middle position continued. In the late 20th century including the early 1980s, late 1980s, early 1990s, and late 1990s it suffered economically in the transition to the post-Soviet era.
