Belgium is a nation in Europe. HistoryLittle is known of it during prehistory. I do not have details for early prehistory, middle prehistory, or late prehistory. I know little of it during antiquity. I know very little of it during the 5th millennium BC or the 3th millennium BC. For the 2nd millennium BC I do not yet have details of the early 2nd millennium BC, the early mid 2nd millennium BC, the mid 2nd millennium BC, the late mid 2nd millennium BC, or the late 2nd millennium BC. For the early 1st millennium BC, I do not yet have details of the 10th century BC, the 9th century BC, the 8th century BC, the 7th century BC, or the 6th century BC. Classical and medieval historyLate in early classical times, this was conquered by the Roman republic. I do not yet have details of the 5th century BC, the 4th century BC, the 3rd century BC, the 2nd century BC, or the early 1st century BC. |

In late classical times, it was ruled by the Roman empire. I do not yet have details of the 1st century CE, the 2nd century CE, the 3rd century CE, the 4th century CE, or the 5th century CE. In early medieval times, it was largely ruled by the Merovingian kings of France and later by the Holy Roman emperor or Charlemagne. I do not yet have details of the 6th century CE, 7th century CE, 8th century CE, 9th century CE, or 10th century CE. In late medieval times, in the 11th century and 12th century it was ruled by effectively independent dukes and counts. In the 13th and 14th centuries, many cities gained effective independence, and this became a major commercial center. In the 15th century, it became part of Burgundy and later the Habsburg Holy Roman Empire.
