Afghanistan

Afghanistan is one of the 40 most populous countries in the world.

History

Prehistory

Early prehistory including the Pliocene, early Pleistocene, early mid Pleistocene, mid Pleistocene, late mid Pleistocene, and late Pleistocene can be connected. I do not yet have details of middle prehistory including the period beginning 50,000 years ago, the period beginning 40,000 years ago, the period beginning 30,000 years ago, or the period beginning 20,000 years ago. For late prehistory I do not yet have details of the early 8th millennium BC, the late 8th millennium BC, the early 7th millennium BC, the late 7th millennium BC, the early 6th millennium BC, or the late 6th millennium BC.

Antiquity

I do not yet have details for the 5th millennium BC including the early 5th millennium BC, the early mid 5th millennium BC, the mid 5th millennium BC, the late mid 5th millennium BC, or the late 5th millennium BC. The 4th millennium BC including the early 4th millennium BC, the early mid 4th millennium BC, the mid 4th millennium BC, the late mid 4th millennium BC, and the late 4th millennium BC can be connected. In the 3rd millennium BC, in the early 3rd millennium BC, Urbanization associated with Bronze age civilization may have begun. I do not yet have details of the early mid 3rd millennium BC, the mid 3rd millennium BC, the late mid 3rd millennium BC. In the late 3rd millennium BC, peoples of the Bactria-Margiana Archeological complex (BMAC) seem to have been present.

The 2nd millennium BC was important. In the early 2nd millennium BC, peoples of the BMAC flourished. In the early mid 2nd millennium BC, the BMAC seems to have ended. I do not have details of the mid 2nd millennium BC, the late mid 2nd millennium BC, or the late 2nd millennium BC. The early first millennium BC can be connected. I do not yet have details of the 10th century BC or the 9th century BC. In the 8th century BC, the Medes of the Persian empire conquered the region. In the 7th century BC these peoples were ruled by the Medes. In the 6th century BC they became part of the Achaemenid Persian Empire.

Classical and medieval history

I have little information for early classical times including the 5th century BC, the 3th century BC, the 3rd century BC, the 2nd century BC, or the 1st century BC. Late classical times including the 1st century CE, 2nd century CE, 3rd century CE, 4th century CE, and 5th century CE can be connected. I also do not yet have details for early medieval times including the 6th century CE, 7th century CE, 8th century CE, 9th century CE, or 10th century CE. In late medieval times, it was invaded and conquered by the Mongols, but I do not yet have details of the 11th century, 12th century, 14th century, 14th century, or 15th century.

Modern history

In the 16th century it was part of the Mughal empire. I do not yet have details of the early 16th century, early mid 16th century, mid 16th century, late-mid 16th century, or late 16th century. In the 17th century it was divided between the Mughals, Uzbeks, and Persians. I do not yet have details of the early 17th century, early mid 17th century, mid 17th century, late-mid 17th century, or late 17th century. In the 18th century, native dynasties came to power. I do not yet have details for the early 18th century, early mid 18th century, mid 18th century, late-mid 18th century, or late 18th century.

In the 19th century, it was caught between the expanding Russian empire in the north and the British holdings in India, in the south. I do not yet have details for the early 19th century, early mid 19th century, mid 19th century, or late-mid 19th century. The late 19th century including the early 1880s, late 1880s, early 1890s, and late 1890s can be connected.

20th century

Afthanistan survived as an independent nation. I have few details on the early 20th century including the early 1900s, late 1900s, early 1910s, or late 1910s. The early mid 20th century including the early 1920s, late 1920s, early 1930s, and late 1930s can be connected. I also lack details of the mid 20th century including the early 1940s, late 1940s, early 1950s, and late 1950s. I also lack details of the late-mid 20th century including the early 1960s, late 1960s, early 1970s, and late 1970s.

It has been fairly prominent in the late 20th century including the early 1980s, late 1980s. The early 1990s including 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1995 can be connected. In 1996, the faction called the Taliban took control of the capital city and proclaimed the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Early 21st century

The early 2000s including 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 can be considered. Beginning in 2001, the US began military operations in Afganistan and the Taliban left Kabul, but the civil war continued.
