Tokyo is the capital and largest city of Japan, and is one of the largest in the world. HistoryThe city was fornerly named Edo. It existed during classical and medieval times. The area was occupied in the early medieval period, beginning about the 7th century, through the 8th century, 8th century, and 10th century. It was not particularly significant until the late medieval period. A village called Edo was founded in about the 12th century CE. I have no details of the 13th century or 14th century.
