New York City

New York City is one of the largest cities in the world. It is considered the cultural and economic capital of the United States, though not the seat of government. The urbanized area around it is the fourth most populous in the world.

Its history is entirely modern. Although the site was inhabited by American Indians, it did not become a city until the 17th century. In the early 17th century, (1614) it was founded by the Dutch as New Amsterdam, and remained a Dutch colony in the early-mid 17th century and mid 17th century. In the late-mid 17th century (1664) it ws conquered by the British and renamed New York, and remained undre their rule in the late 17th century. In the early In the 18th century, under British Colonial rule, it grew to become an important trading city, though I lack details for most of the early 18th, early-mid 18th, or mid 18th century. It was the focus of an important campaign in the American revolution in the late-mid 18th century, and was for a time the capital city of the newly independent United States in the late 18th century.

It continued to grow in the 19th century. In the early 19th century, there was substantial immigration, a street development pattern was imposed, and the Erie canal connected it to the US Midwest. In the early-mid 19th century, it surpassed Philadelphia in population, and it came to be governed by a political machine called Tammany Hall. I do not yet have details of the early 1920s, late 1920s, early 1930s, or late 1930s. In the mid-19th century, Central Park was created. I do not yet have details of the early 1840s, late 1840s, early 1850s, or late 1850s. In the late-mid 19th century, it was the scene of draft riots during the Civil War. I do not yet have many more details of the early 1860s, late 1860s, early 1870s, or late 1870s. In the late 19th century, the modern city government was organized. I do not yet have details of the early 1880s, late 1880s, early 1890s, or late 1890s.

The 20th century has been especially significant. I do not yet have details for the early 20th century including the early 1900s, late 1900s, early 1910s, and late 1910s, early-mid 20th century including the early 1920s, late 1920s, early 1930s, or late 1930s, or mid 20th century including the early 1940s, late 1940s, early 1950s, or late 1950s. It has continued to grow through the late-mid 20th century, although I do not have many details for the early 1960s, late 1960s, early 1970s, or late 1970s. In the late 20th century it has remained important, although details through the early 1980s, late 1980s, early 1990s including 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1995 and late 1990s are not yet clear. Events of 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000 can be considered.

The early 21st century can be examined. In the early 2000s it was a target of a major terrorist attack. Recent events through 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 including the first, second, third, and fourth quarters will be examined.

Current events of the late 2000s beginning in 2006 will be examined. Events through the third quarter should be examined before long. The fourth quarter including October, November, and December will also be considered.

Events of 2007 can be considered. The first quarter is being examined first. Events of January, February, and March are recent. The Second quarter including April, May, and June, third quarter including July, August and September, and the fourth quarter including October, November, and December can also be examined.

Events of 2008 including those of the first quarter, second quarter, third quarter with July, August, and September and fourth quarter including October and November can be considered.

Events of 2009 including the first quarter 2009, second quarter 2009, and third quarter 2009 can be considered. The fourth quarter 2009 including October 2009, November 2009, and December 2009 can be considered. 2010 can be connected. The first quarter 2010 can be connected. The second quarter 2010 can be connected. The third quarter 2010 and fourth quarter 2010 can also be connected.

The early 2010s can be connected. 2011 can be connected. The first quarter 2011 can be connected. January 2011 including 2011 week 1, 2011 week 2, 2011 week 3, 2011 week 4, 2011 week 5, and 2011 week 6 can be connected. February 2011, and March 2011, the second quarter 2011 and third quarter 2011 can be connected.

The future of New York City including the near future nown to next month, next quarter, next year, the middle future, and far future is obscure.

Other Sociology

Connections to peoples including particular nations will be developed. This city belongs to Western Civilization, in particular Anglic peoples, Anglo-american peoples, and to the United States, though there is some influence from Asiatic peoples. Connections to other communities such as Tokyo, Seoul, Mexico City, and Bombay can be considered.

Connections to social structure and change will be considered. Social change including social change factors and processes will be useful. Of particular changes, elements of the agrarian revolution and the industrial revolution will be useful. Social types include little of hunting and gathering or horticultural types, but include agrarian and industrial societies. Social structure including anthropological structure, cultural structure, institutional structure, class structure, and community and regional structure will be useful.

The institutions of New York City are significant. Religion, including beliefs and practice, is significant. Traditions include Abrahamic, secularist, Asiatic, and, minimally, pagan. Overall religious organization is fragmented. Government including law, government activities, government structure, and particular governments are also important. Economics including industries, activities, systems, and companies is highly important. Education including research, teaching, cultural institutions, educational organization, and particular schools is also significant. Families can also be connected.

Culture will be significant. Behavioral culture, including customs, occupations, performing arts, sports and games, and cultural events will be developed. Conceptual culture and material culture can be considered.

Anthropology including social foundations, demography, human geography, physical anthropology, human ecology, and particular groups will also be connected.

Personal studies are not as useful for the human body or pschology as for biography.

Physical and natural science is for the most part indirectly connected. Physics and chemistry are less useful than astronomy, earth science, and biology.
