Nanking, also called Nanjing, is a major city of China. Its history will be examined as the site develops. According to legend it was founded in the classical and medieval period, specifically the early classical period (495 BC). I have no details of the late classical period, early medieval times, or late medieval times. It has become an important city in modern times, although I do not yet have details of the 16th century, 17th century, 18th century, or 19th century. I do not yet have details of the 20th century including the early 20th century, early mid 20th century, mid 20th century, or late mid 20th century.
