Los Angeles is the second largest city of the United States, and is one of the 10 largest in the world. Its history, which is entirely modern, will be examined as the site develops. It was founded in the 18th century, specifically the late 18th century (1781). In the 19th century it grew rapidly. In the early 19th century it was under Spanish rule, and in the early-mid 19th century, it was under Mexican rule after Mexican independence. In the mid-19th century it came under American rule following the Mexican War. In the late-mid 19th century, the Southern Pacific Railroad reached Lost Angeles, and in the late 19th century, oil was discovered. It has grown substantially in the 20th century. In the early 20th century, completion of a major aqueduct gave it a good supply of water.
