It was founded possibly in early medieval times, about the 10th century CE (about 900 CE). It may have been a collection of villages in late medieval times. I do not yet have details of the 11th century CE, 12th century CE, 13th century CE, or 14th century CE. In the 15th century CE, the place was given its current name by the Portuguese in 1472. |
