Oriental peoples can be examined in the 16th century, 17th century, 18th century, 19th century, and 20th century. |

Oriental peoples have been dominated but for the most part not directly ruled by western civilizations in the modern period. China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, North Korea, and South Korea can be examined.
So far I do not yet have many details for China including North Central China, South Central China, Southern Coastal china, or southern interior China. The Ming dynasty was in decline. Japan was first contacted by the Portuguese. I have no details on Tokyo. I have no details yet on South Korea or North Korea. I have no details for Seoul.I have no information on the development of Osaka. I do not yet have details of the early 16th century, early mid 16th century, mid 16th century, or late-mid 16th century. In the late 16th century, the Chinese came into conflict with Japan over Korea.
I do not yet have many details of China including North Central China, South Central China, Southern Coastal China, (with Taiwan and Hong Kong) or Interior Southern China. In the late-mid 19th century, the Taiping Rebellion was finally put down in China. Japan began a rapid industrialization program. Tokyo and Seoul were important cities. I do not yet have details of the early 1860s, late 1860s, early 1870s, or late 1870s. By the late 19th century, Japan had achieved military victories over China, which was slower to adopt western ideas and was nearly dismembered by Western governments. I have no specific information on Tokyo or Seoul. I do not yet have details of the early 1880s, late 1880s, early 1890s, or late 1890s.
China suffered a collapse of empire and a period of disunity, civil war, and invasion before recombining under communist rule. Taiwan became a refuge for the former government of China and became practically independent. Hong Kong was mostly under British rule. Japan became militarily powerful and aggressively invaded its neighbors, but was defeated in World War II, and afterwards became an economic power. Korea was divided, part of it coming under Communist rule, and part of it allied with Western nations.
Events of the early 20th century are significant. In China, the Qing dynasty collapsed and was replaced by a short-lived republic. Tokyo was an important city. Seoul was an important city. I do not yet have details of the early 1900s, late 1900s, early 1910s, or late 1910s. In the early-mid 20th century, China was divided between Nationalist and Communist rule and was invaded and partly occupied by Japan. Tokyo was an important city, Seoul was an important city. I do not yet have details of the early 1920s, late 1920s, early 1930s, or late 1930s.
China was invaded and occupied by Japan in World War II. Following the defeat of Japan, open warfare resumed between Communist and Nationalist forces. The Communist party prevailed and established the People's Republic of China, allied with the USSR, while the Nationalist governent fled to Taiwan and set up a government in exile. South Korea became divided from North Korea in the Korean War.
I have not yet considered the early 1940s or late 1940s in detail. In the early 1950s, In China the Communists consolidated their rule and supported the attempt of Communist North Korea to extend its rule over all Korea. In the late 1950s I have few details for China except that Mao was the principal leader. I do not yet have details for 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, or 1960.
China split with the Soviet Union to pursue a distinctive course. Events of South Central China Japan can be considered. North and South Korea can be considered.
In the early 1960s, Mao initiated a movement known as the Cultural revolution. In the late 1960s, in China, Mao's Cultural revolution continued. In the early 1970. The Peoples Republic of China was internationally recognized as the legitimate government of China, instead of the former nationalist government based on Taiwan. I do not yet have details of 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, or 1975. In the late 1970s, in China, Mao died and, after a power struggle, was succeeded by capitalist-minded reformers. I do not yet have details for 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, or 1980.

I do not yet have details of 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, or 1990. In the early 1990s China was mostly involved in economic developments. I have few details for Japan. In 2001, in China, a Chinese fighter collided with a US surveillance craft, causing an international incident. The Chinese won their bid to host the 2008 Summer Olympic games in 2008. A treaty with Russia was signed. China was admitted into the World Trade Organization and estalished a normal trade relationship with the US. In 2002. Hu Jintao became General Secretary of the Communist Party of China. In 2003, Hu Jintao became President of China. The reservoir behind the controversial Three Gorges Dam began to fill. I do not have recorded events for 2004 or for 2005.

The 2nd quarter is not yet properly examined, but events of April, May, and June can be examined. In the 3rd quarter, events of July are incomplete. Events of August are incomplete and only connected so far as China. Events of September are being analyzed but are so far incomplete. Events of the 4th quarter are also being analyzed. Events of China,Japan, and South Korea are being considered. During October, the 17th Communist Party Congress in China resulted in some retirements and other changes in Party leadership. China also launched a lunar orbiter. In November, reported events in China are primarily local. Reported events in Japan, except for resumed hunting of humpback whales, are also mostly local. Few events are yet reported for December.
