Advanced thermodynamics

This deals with the topic of nonequilibrium thermodynamics.

Dynamic processes

Nonclassical thermodynamics deals with irreversible processes.

The first law of thermodynamics can be stated as:

Q (heat)

W (Work).

Delta E = Q + W.

The second law of thermodynamics can be stated as

Delta S (isolated system) > 0.

Non-equilibrium states

These include steady states and dynamic states. The description of the state may be complicated.

Nonclassical systems

A thermodynamic system is a quantity of matter described by a set of properties. Unlike classical therodynamics, these properties may be non-uniform and may vary throughout the sample.

Biology including molecular biology, cell biology, organism biology, systematics, ecology, and biohistory also provides examples. Earth science including geology, hydrospheric science, atmospheric science, physical geography, and geohistory also provides examples. Astronomy including cosmology, galactic astronomy, stellar astronomy, and solar system astronomy also provide examples. Chemistry including substances, changes, and chemical systems provide examples.

The structure of matter including subatomic physics, atomic physics, molecular physics, bulk matter, and exotic matter is also important. Quantum physics may also be used a little. Relativity may be used a little. Electromagnetism including electrostatics, electric current, magnetism, and optics may be useful. It depends heavily on statistical mechanics and classical thermodynamics. This is connected first to Mechanics, including rigid body mechanics, nonrigid mechanics, and gravitation. Particle mechanics including particle description, kinematics, kinetics, enegetics, and particle systems may be connected.
