Position

Motion is a change in position, and for a particle at rest there is no motion and no change in position. Position is usually described using a coordinate system specifying the distance and direction from a particular origin. Many different coordinate systems can be used to describe a position.

Position

Position in space or three dimensions is given by three types of coordinate system. A spherical coordinate system, a cylindrical coordinate system, and a Cartesian coordinate sytem.

Position on a plane is given using two principal types of coordinate systems. One of these is called a polar coordinate system. The other is called the Cartesian coordinate system.

Position along a line is given by distance from a reference point called the origin.
