Proteins

Proteins are among the fundamental building blocks of cells and other forms of life. This study includes components, structure, changes, and types.

Components

There are about 20 amino acids that are used in proteins.

Structure

The primary structure of a protein consists of its amino acid sequence. Secondary structure includes helical structure, if any. Tertiary structure includes overall shape and conformation. Quaternary structure includes sub-units. There may also be non-protein components attached.

Changes

This includes sysnthesis, changes in structure or conformation, which may be refersible or irreversible, and degradation.

Types

There are two major types of proteins: Structural proteins, and enzymes. I do not have a classification of enzymes, though I would like to.

This is connected first to other sciences. Other areas of knowledge such as Personal studies, anthropology, culture, institutions, sociology, and history will be connected as this site develops.
