Paleozoic Life

542 Million years ago to 248 Million years ago. This is known for the development of visible fossils. It includes the Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Carboniferous, which includes the Mississippian and Pennsylvanian periods, and the Permian. It ended with the Permian extinction, in which most kinds of life were wiped out.

Cambrian

542-490 Million years ago. Most major groups of animals begin to appear in the fossil record.
