Fishes

Fishes are divided into several major groupings.

   

Jawless fishes

Living species include hagfhish and lampreys

Cartilagenous fishes

Extinct placoderms and sharks, skates, and rays

Ray finned fishes

The dominant kind of fishes

Lobe-finned fishes

These are mostly extinct, but thought to be ancestral to the tetrapods.
