Formative period

This has to do with the period when the sun was first condensing from a solar nebula. Events of this period are largely speculative.

Late heavy bombardment

From about 4.5 billion years ago to about 4 billion years ago. The majority of the craters on the moon are associated with this period.

Subsequent evolution

The dating of the majority of events in the solar system is uncertain. More information may become available once detailed exploration of planets is possible.

Calculations from physics oncluding mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, relativity, quantum theory, and structure of matter are connected with this subject. Calculations from chemistry are helpful, but this relies heavily on other areas of astronomy, and somewhat on earth science.
