Interplanetary medium

The interplanetary medium has not been closely examined. On a small scale, it is an excellent vacuum. On a larger scale, it includes dust and gas.

Dust

This is largely composed of debris from collisions and breakups of smaller bodies in the solar system.

Gas

This is largely produced by the solar wind, which is mostly hydrogen given off by the sun.
