Schroeder was born 7 Apr, 1944, in Mossenburg, Germany. His father was killed in World War II, and he left school at age 16 to help support his family. He worked in sales, and in 1963 joined the Social Democratic party. In 1966 - 71, he was able to continue his education. In 1978 he became Chairman of the Young Socialists. In 1980 he was elected to the Bundestag. Early 1980s Schroeder was a member of the Bundestag. |

Late 1980s Schroeder was a member of the Bundestag until 1986. In 1988 he was elected to the Parliament of Lower Saxony. Early 1990s I have no details of this period. Late 1990s In 1998 he was elected chancellor of Germany, succeding Helmut Kohl. In 2002 was reelected to that position. He was among the chief opponents to the US invasion of Iraq. He has since then been succeded as Chancellor by Angela Merckel, but I do not yet hve details of the early 2000s or late 2000s. I do not yet have details of the early 2010s including 2011. |
