Guglielmo Marconi

Marconi was born 25 Apr 1874, in Bologna, Italy, and educated in Italy where became familiar with the work of Maxwell and others.

His pioneering experiments in wireless telegraphy began about 1895. There was little interest in this in his native Italy, and he went to London, patented his invention, and established a company to develop it, while he continued to improve his equipment, in the process gaining massive international publicity. In 1901 he demonstrated transatlantic communication and in 1909 recieved the Nobel Prize.

He continued to make discoveries and improvements, helped develop radio and communication, and was included as a delate to the peace conference at the end of World War I. In about 1923 he demonstrated directed short-wave communication.

Marconi remained active in the development of radio and in Italian political and scientific matters until his death on 20 Jul 1937.

Marconi was born in the 19th century, specifically in the late-mid 19th century. In the late 19th century, he developed the first wireless telegraphy or radio. In the early 20th century, Marconi extended his work to international, long-distance radio transmission. and was awarded a Nobel prize. In the early-mid 20th century, Marconi continued to work on radio communication including microwaves and died in this period.
