John Major

Major was Born 29 Mar 1943 in Surrey, England. He was raised in Brixton, and at age 16 left school to work and help support his family.

Late mid 20th century

In the early 1960s, I do not yet have details. In the late 1960s, in 1968 he returned to school. In the early 1970s, in 1971 he earned a higher degree, and afterwards entered local politics. In the late 1970s, in 1979 he was elected to Parliament in the Conservative Party.

Late 20th century

In the early 1980s, he was reelected to Parliament in 1983.

Ih the late 1980s, In 1987 after another election, he was chosen as one of the Cabinet ministers, and in 1989 was chosen as Foreign secretary, then as Chancellor of the Exchequer. Following a struggle for Conservative Party leadership, he was selected in 1990 as Prime Minister in place of Margaret Thatcher.

In the early 1990s, he lead British support of the United States in the Persian Gulf War, and in 1992 retained his seat in Parliament. in 1995, dissatisfaction with his leadership led to his resignation as leader of the Conservative party, but he was reelected to this post.

In the late 1990s, in 1997 the Conservative Party was soundly defeated by the Labour Party, and he was succeeded as Prime Minister by Tony Blair. He wrote his political memoirs in 1999

Early 21st century

I do not yet have many details of the early 2000s or late 2000s. In 2001 he retired from Parliament. I do not yet have details of the early 2010s including 2011.
