Helmut Kohl

Kohl was born 3 Apr 1930 in Ludwigshuten, Germany.

In 1947, following WWII, he joined the Christian Democratic party, and began to follow a career in local politics.

Late mid 20th century

For the early 1960s I do not yet have details. In the late 1960s, in 1969 he became Premier of Rhineland- Palatinate state. In the early 1970s, he continued in this position. In the late 1970s, in 1976 he ended his term as Premiear and was elected to the Bundestag.

Late 20th century

Early 1980s, In 1982 he succeeded Helmut Schmidt as Chancellor.

Late 1980s, He was reelected in 1987, and in 1989-90, presided over the reunification of Germany following the removal of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the East German government

Early 1990s in 1991 elected as chancellor of the reunited Germany. In 1994 he was reelected chancellor

Late 1990s in 1998 he was succeeded by Gerhard Schroeder.
