Euclid

Euclid of Alexandria was one of the most influential mathematicians of all time. Little is known of his personal life; he is known through and because of his work. He lived about 300 BC.

   

Science including physics, chemistry, astronomy, earth science, and biology is at present only weakly connected to the life of Euclid. Personal studies are also important, though connection to other listed individuals is at present unclear.

Anthropology including social foundations, demography, physical anthropology, and human geography may possibly be applied. human geography is also useful. Particular groups can be connected He may have a connection with European geography and Asian geography but how much is unknown.

Culture including Material culture will also be useful. Conceptual culture including language, graphic arts, literature, mathematics, applied science, and philosophy is especially important. Behavioral culture including customs, occupations, recreation and entertainment, and cultural events can be considered.

Sociology is also vital. Social structure and change and certain communities are also significant, and peoples are also important. Euclid is claimed primarily by Western civilization particularly Balkan peoples, though he was also influenced by Asiatic peoples, especially those of the Middle East.

It is not known exactly when Euclid lived, but it is believed that he lived during early classical times, from the fourth century BC into the third century BC.
