He served in the military from 1954-57 and was wounded in the French-Algerian war. Afterwards, in 1959, he attended the Ecole d' Administration.In 1960 he became the administrator of the government accounting Office. Late mid 20th century In the early 1960s, In 1962 he became an under Secretary of State under Georges Pompidou. In the late 1960s, in 1967 He was elected to the National Assembly of france, and in 1968 had an important role in settling a dispute between the government and students.
