Siddhartha Gautama Buddha, most commonly known simply as Buddha, is one of the more influential figures in world history. He was born about 560 BC and died about 480 BC. At present, I have no summary of his life or career. |

There is considerable uncertainty about when Gautama Buddha lived. It is most generally believed that he was born in antiquity, specifically the early first millennium BC and lived into the early classical period, specifically the 5th century BC. . |

Sociology will be useful. Peoples will also be useful. He is especially prominent in Asiatic civilization, and lived in South Asia, what is now India, possibly not far from what is now Delhi. Communities can be connected. Connections to social structure and change, including social structure, social types, and social change will be a challenge to make. InstitutionsBuddha is important in religion. He was an innovator in religious belief and practice, though not necessarily in organization. He is the founder of a major religious tradition, which is here considered to be in the Asiatic family. He seems not to have been closely involved in government including law, activity, government structure, or particular governments. I have little information on economics, including economic activity, industries, or economic systems, except that by tradition he was born in a wealthy family and forsook riches. Education in his time was largely informal and he conducted little research, though he was an effective teacher. Connections to cultural institutions, educational organization, and particular shools are weak. I have little information regarding family including marriage, parenting, kinship, and particular families. He is not recorded to have been married or left descentants or other relatives. CultureMaterial culture such as industrial technology, building technology, foodstuffs, clothing, communication technology, transportation technology, and other artifacts are only weakly connected. Conceptual culture including language, graphic arts and literature will be useful. Connections of mathematics, applied science, and philosophy are also not well known. Connections with behavioral culture including customs, occupation, performing arts, games, sports, and cultural events is not known. Anthropology will be somewhat useful. Social foundations may be applicable, but demography is harder to apply. human geography will be useful. Buddha lived in Asia and probably never visited Europe. Physical anthropology, human ecology, and particular groups may also be applicable. Studies of the human body and psychology and other biographies are more useful. Science including Earth science has only limited application to the life of Buddha, although he had a significant influence on them. |
