Modern History of Institutions

The history and developments of institutions in the 16th century, 17th century, 18th century, 19th century, and 20th century can be connected.

Modern history

The social institutions of religion, government, economics, education, and families have become more complex and often more organized in modern times.

16th century

Western institutions changed considerably. Religion changed with the Reformation. Government expanded to include colonial empires. Economics changes with expanded international trade. Education expanded to keep up, and families also became important. I have only begin to examine the early 16th century, early mid 16th century, mid 16th century, late-mid 16th century, and late 16th century.

17th century

Details of religion, government, economics, education, and families are somewhat lacking. I have only begun to examine the early 17th century, early mid 17th century, mid 17th century, or the late-mid 17th century. I have only begun to examine the late 17th century, but this includes some religion.

18th century

The so-called "Enlightenment" brought about significant changes in Western institutions including religion, government, economics, education, and families. Examination of the early 18th century is only beginning, but includes government and religion. Examination of the early-mid 18th century is only beginning, but includes government and religion. Details of the mid 18th century are also unclear but include economics, government and religion. In the late-mid 18th century, connections to families, education, economics, government, and religion can be made. In the late 18th century, even more specific connections to families, education, economics, government, and religion can be made.

19th century

There was a significant increase of secularism in contrast to other religious traditions. Government became more extensive, larger scale, and better organized. The Industrial revolution brough substantial economic change along with it. There was substantial growth in literacy and education. Families remained important in most societies.

Developments of the early 19th century including the Napoleonic Era are not yet entirely clear. Families, education, economics, government, and religion can be considered a little. Developments of the early-mid 19th including families, eduction, economics, government, and religion, with Latin American independence and the early industrial revolution are not yet clear. Developments of the mid 19th century including families, education, economics, government, and religion with the continuing industrial revolution and the appearance of socialism are also not entirely clear. In the late-mid 19th century, families, education, economics, government, and religion are important. secularism began to exert a stronger influence than before on education and government. In the late 19th century, Westernized institutions began to have global reach and influence. Families, education, economics, government, and religion are important.

20th century

There was significant growth in secularism. There was a significant growth of international government. Worldwide corporations grew in power. Growth in literacy and education continued. Families have become somewhat smaller and looser. Details of the early 20th century, early mid 20th century, mid 20th century, late mid 20th century, late 20th century, and early 21st century are considered in more detail on separate pages
