Heads of state and government have a signifcant history. I cannot identify them in prehistory, but they appear in antiquity, classical and medieval history. Their titles and functions have changed through modern history, and in the 16th, 17th century, 18th century, and 19th century. Developments in the 20th century including the early 2oth century, early-mid 20th century, mid 20th centjry, late-mid 20th century, late 20th century, and early 21st century can be followed. The future is obscure
