The history of national government is somewhat difficult to trace. Its origins are lost in prehistory, but there is some precedent for them in antiquity, and some in classical and medieval times. In early classical times, there were experiments with democratic governments and dictatorships, but the majority of governments were monarchies. In late classical times, monarchies were more often used. This continued in early medieval and in late medieval times. In modern times, Monarchical governments have fallen out of favor and have split between democratic forms and dictatorships. This process can be followed through the 16th century, 17th century, and the 18th century. In the 19th century, there were a number of revolutionary movments, although at present I lack details on the early 19th century, early-mid 19th century, mid 19th century, late-mid 19th century, and late 19th century. In the 20th century, while the number of traditional monarchies declined, and democratic governments increased, there were also various influential dictatorships. In early 20th century, the most important remaining monarchies were destroyed and replaced by democracies and dictatorships. In the early-mid 20th century, some of these democracies were unstable and dictatorships became important. In the mid 20th century. following their defeat in World War II, new democracies were declared, although some of these were untable and frequently ovethrown by dictatorships. In the late-mid 20th century this mixed record continued, and the situtaion persisted into the late 20th century, and the early 21st century. Details of the early 2000s and late 2000s, in particular 2006 including the 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter, and 4th quarter and 2007 down to the 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter, and 4th quarter including October, November, and December are being examined. The future of national governments is unknown.
