Science Applied to Prehistory

Biology, earth science, astronomy, chemistry, and physics can be applied to the study of prehistory.

Science

Science can be applied to early prehistory, middle prehistory, and late prehistory.

Biology

Biohistory is also connected, although the Precambrian, Paleozoic, and Mesozoic eras ended long before humans appeared in the fossil record. Human history is entirely contained in the Cenozoic era. There are connections with the Pliocene, Pleistocene, and Holocene Epochs. Ecology including biogeography, ecosystems, evolution, systems ecology, community ecology, population ecology, and behavioral ecology might be connected. Systematics including animals, fungi, plants, protists, and microbes can be connected. Organism biology including behavior, life cycle, form, organ systems, tissues, and habitat can be considered. Cell biology including cell types, cell behavior, and cell anatomy can be considered. Molecular biology including nucleic acids, proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, small organics, and inorganics can be connected.

Earth science

Geohistory is more directly useful, although the Precambrian, Paleozoic, and Mesozic periods are not particularly relevant: Human prehistory is entirely contained in the Cenozoic. There are connections with the Pliocene, Pleistocene, and Holocene epochs. Physical geography including terrestrial geography, oceanic geography, and mapping can be connected. Atmospheric science including climatology, meteorology, and atmospheric structure can be connected. Hydrospheric science including oceanography, glaciology, groundwater, and freshwater can be connected. Geology including interior geology, geologic processes, landforms, rocks, and minerals can be connected.

Astronomy

Cosmology seems to be only indirectly applicable. Galactic astronomy seems to be indirectly applicable. Stellar astronomy including astrocartography, star systems, stars, and the interstellar medium seems at best indirectly applicable. Solar system astronomy is somewhat applicable to human prehistory. Solar system history, the sun, solar planetary systems, minor bodies, and the interplanetary medium will also be somewhat useful.

Chemistry

Chemical systems including organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, gas chemistry, liquid chemistry, and solid chemistry can be connected. Chemical change including nuclear reactions, chemical reactions, and physical change can be connected. Chemical substances including mixures, compounds and elements can be connected.

Physics

Structure of matter including exotic matter, common matter, molecular physics, atomic physics, and subatomic physics is indirectly connected to prehistory. Quantum physics may be applicable, but had not developed in this period. Relativity may be applicable but had not developed in this period. Electromagnetism including optics, magnetism, electric current, and electrostatics can be connected. Thermodynamics including advanced thermodynamics, classical thermodynamics, and statistical mechanics may be connected. Mechanics including gravitation, nonrigid mechanics, rigid-body mechanics, and particle mechanics can be connected.
