First Quarter 2006

In January, Samuel Alito was sworn in as the newest US Supreme Court justice. The Prime Minister of Israel Ariel Sharon suffered a disabling stroke. In February, US Vice President Dick Cheney was involved in a shooting accident. In March, Slobodan Milosevic was found dead in his cell while awaiting trial for war crimes.

Second Quarter 2006

In April, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was removed from office for disability and was succeeded by acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Han Myung Sook became the (first female) Prime Minister of South Korea. In June, Montenegro was granted independence from Serbia and Montenegro.

Third Quarter 2006

In July, major events include a Presidential election in Mexico, The opening of a railway from China proper to Tibet, and the reopening of a border pass between China and India that had been closed since 1962. In August, a terrorist plot led to stricter controls on airline passenger baggage. In September, food contaminants in the United states killed one and sickened about 100 others in 20 states. A US Congressmen resigned after accusations of sexual misconduct with congressional pages. Felipe Calderon was declared the winner of the Mexican Presidential election. A Chinese Central Political Bureau comittee member was removed on charges of corruption, and a new Prime Minister of Japan was selected.

Fourth Quarter 2006

In October, major events included election of a new Secretary General of the UN, reelection of the President of Brazil, test of a nuclear device by North Korea, followed by sanctions from the UN. In November, major events included a change in the US Secretary of Defense, US Congressional elections, in which the Democratic party gained a majority in both houses of Congress, and a change in political control of the Netherlands. Iran and Syria recognized the government of Iraq and opened diplomatic relations, while an Iraqi court pronounced a death sentence on Saddam Hussein. In December, Felipe Calderon began his term as President of Mexico, Hugo Chavez was reelected as president of Venezuela, and Saparmurat Niyazov, dictator of Turkmenistan, died.

Other Modern history

The 16th century, 17th century, 18th century, and 19th century are also somewhat remote. This is somewhat connected to other events of the late middle and late 20th century, most especially to years in the early 2000s. It is immediately preceded by events of 2005.

South Asian peoples including those of India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh have also been important. Major cities include Bombay, Delhi.

Central Asian peoples, if they are mentioned yet, are represented by Russia and China.

Oriental peoples including people of China, Japan, and Koreans have been important in 2006. Major cities include Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, Osaka

Southeast Asian including Mainland Southeast Asia, Vietnam Australia, and Polynesian peoples are also significant. Major cities include Jakarta. The Southeast Asian Archipelagoes including Indonesia, and the Philippines can be connected.

Conceptual culture including language, graphic arts, literature, mathematics, applied science, and philosophy will be significant. Behavioral culture including customs, occupations, performing arts, sports and games, and events will be significant.
