Sociology Applied to 20th Century History

As with history in general and modern history, the examination of social structure and change, communities, and peoples of the world gives weight and substance to 20th century history.

   

Sociology

Sociology can be used in examining the early 20th century. It can also be applied to the early-mid 20th century, the mid 20th century, the late-mid 20th century, the late 20th century, and the early 21st century.

Peoples of the world

Western Civilization began to decline from its dominant position in the world. Asiatic peoples flourished. African peoples generally remained disunited, and American Indian peoples were yet more thoroughly submerged by Western civilization.

Communities

Those that include discussion of events of the 20th century are discussed below along with the peoples they belong to. Cities not yet connected include Phoenix, Sydney, Algiers, Harbin, Abidjan, Berlin, Porto Alegre, Barcelona Monterrey, Shantou, Surat, Hangchou.

Changes that began with the early industrial revolution have continued through the early 20th century, early mid 20th century, mid 20th century, late mid 20th century, late 20th century, and early 21st century. The middle industrial revolution can be applied to the early 20th century, early mid 20th century, mid 20th century, late mid 20th century, and early 21st century. The late industrial revolution began in the mid 20th century, advanced slowly in the late mid 20th century, and has been important in the late 20th century and early 21st century.

Social change factors

Social change factors can so far be applied to the early 21st century. Natural change is important. Institutional change can be connected. Cultural change can be connected. Demographic change can be connected. Natural change can be connected.

Social change processes

Social change processes so far can be applied to the late 20th century and early 21st century. Studies of innovation are highly useful to studies of the 20th century. Transmission can also be applied to studies of the 20th century. Adaptation can be applied to studies of the 20th century. Extinction can be applied to studies of the 20th century.

Social types

Social types may be applied to the early 20th century, early mid 20th century, mid 20th century, late mid 20th century, and early 21st century. Industrial society is predominant in the early 21st century, but there are many less-developed regions of the world. Traditional agrarian societies are limited in extent in the early 21st century. Horticultural peoples have been in decline, but can possibly be applied to the early 21st century. There are few hunting and gathering societies remaining in the early 21st century.
