In Russia the energetic but cruel Peter I (the Great) came to power and initiated a program to bring Western learning to Russia. Among Anglic peoples, the United States (which was a collection of British colonies) can be considered. Among Latin peoples, Brazil was a Portuguese colony. Among Asiatic peoples, Bangladesh was part of the Mughal empire. Among South Asian peoples, in India, Aurangzeb of the Mughal empire persecuted Hindus and faced numerous revolts. Pakistan was part of the Mughal empire. Among Oriental peoples there is China (where a border with Russia was established. Among Southeast Asian peoples in Indonesia the Dutch ruled. American Indian peoples such as are found in the United States (which was a collection of British colonies) and Brazil can be considered.

This is weakly connected with periods of history through classical and medieval times. In modern times, it is preceded by the 16th century. Within the 17th century, it is preceded by the late-mid 17th century.

It is followed by the 18th century, specifically the early 18th century, and later periods. The future is also weakly connected.
