1636 Harvard University is founded.

1637 - 1649 Descartes publishes works on philosophy and mathematics.

1638 Harvey publishes work giving the first correct description of the function of the heart and circulation of the blood.

Western Civilization is prominent in this period. In Brazil, Portuguese colonial settlements expanded. Among Anglic peoples, in what is now the United States, the English settlements expanded. Among Asiatic peoples, in Indonesia the Dutch took control of the East Indies from Portugal. Among South Asian peoples, In India the Taj Mahal was begun, and the British founded the city of Madras. Among Oriental peoples, in China the Ming dynasty was in decline. American Indian peoples including those found in the United States and Brazil can be considered.

This is fairly weakly connected to history through classical and medieval times. It is weakly connected to the 16th century, Within the 17th century, it is preceded by the early 17th century.

It is followed by the mid 17th century, and by the 18th century. It seems to be only weakly connected to the future.
