Sociology Applied to Late Classical History

Peoples of the world, communities, and social structure and change can be applied to late classical times.

   

Sociology

Sociology can be applied to the 1st century CE, 2nd century CE, 3rd century CE, 4th century CE, and 5th century CE.

Peoples of the world

Particular nations and major peoples including Western Civilization, Asiatic peoples, African peoples, and American Indian peoples can be applied to give information about the 1st century CE, 2nd century CE, 3rd century CE, 4th century CE, and 5th century CE.

Nations

Somalia, Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Sweden, Haiti, Burundi, Benin, Austria, Azerbaijan, Honduras, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Tajikistan, Israel, El Salvador, Hong Kong, Paraguay, Laos, Sierra Leone, Jordan, Libya, Papua, Togo, Nicaragua, Denmark, Slovakia, Kyrgystan, Finland, Turkmenistan, Eritrea, Norway, Georgia, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Central African Republic, Moldova, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Ireland, Palestinian Territories, Lebanon, and Puerto Rico can be connected.

Western civilization

The records of Western civilization are fragmentary and incomplete, as many of them were destroyed. Belarus can be connected. Paris can be connected.

Anglic peoples

What is now the UK was partly ruled by the Roman empire. London seem so have been founded.

Latin peoples

Portugal was part of the Roman empire. Among Italic peoples, in Italy, the Roman empire established a new capital in what is now Turkey, and divided into Eastern and Western halves. The Western half collapsed under invasions of Germanic peoples. Among French peoples, France was part of the Roman empire, but toward the end of this period, Germanic peoples entered and Roman authority ceased. Among Hispanic peoples, Spain was part of the Roman Empire, but toward the end of this period, Germanic peoples entered and Roman authority ceased.

Germanic peoples

Toward the end of this period, peoples from Germany began to overrun the Western Roman Empire. The Netherlands were conquered by Roman peoples, and later overrun by more Germanic peoples. I have no details of Belgium.

Northeast European peoples

The Czech Republic can be connected. In Russia, I have no records for this period. In Ukraine, there was frequent Greek and Roman colonization. I do not yet have details for Poland.

Balkan peoples

I do not yet have detailed information on Balkan peoples including those of Hungary. Romania can be connected. Greece was under Roman rule. Serbia can be connected.

Asiatic peoples

Tunisia can be considered. Chungking can be connected.

Middle Eastern peoples

I know little of Syria. Tehran seems to have been founded. What is now Turkey was ruled by the Roman empire. Istanbul became the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. Egypt was ruled by the Roman, then the Eastern Roman or Byzantine empire. Mesopotamian peoples including those of Iraq seem to have been divided between Byzantine and Persian rule. Among Persian peoples, in Iran, the Parthians were replaced by Sassanids. I hve no details for Afghanistan. I do not yet have details for Arabian peoples including those of Saudi Arabia or Yemen. Among North African peoples, the Roman empire ruled Morocco and Algeria but was overrun by invaders as the Western Roman Empire collapsed..

South Asian peoples

In India, the imperial Gupta dynasty ruled much of India. In Pakistan, the Mauryan empire had come to an end. In Bangladesh, society seemed to be in decline. I have no details for Nepal or Sri Lanka. The site of Delhi was inhabited.

Central Asian peoples

Kazakhstan can be connected. Peoples of Inner Asia including those of Uzbekistan can be connected.

Oriental peoples

in China, the empire ruled by the Han dynasty broke up. Beijing can be considered. Southern Coastal China can be considered. Canton can be identified. I know little of Taiwan during this period. In Japan, written history began to appear and Confucianism entered the country. Osaka grew as a trading port. Three independent kingdoms arose in Korea, including what are now South Korea. Cities include Seoul. North Korea was part of Korea. Wuhan seems to have been founded.

Southeast Asian

Cambodia can be connected. Jakarta seems to have been founded. In Mainland Southeast Asia, I have no definite information on Vietnam and little about Thailand, Burma, or Malaysia. Among the Southeast Asian Archipelagoes, in Indonesia, information is fragmentary and not yet included here. I have no definite information on the Philippines. Australia can be connected.

African peoples

Little is known of African peoples during this period. I know nothing of Chad.

Eastern African peoples

I know nothing of Rwanda. There is not yet much information about Northern East Africa except that in Ethiopia the kingdom of Axum was founded and began to accept Christianity. For Interior East African peoples including Sudan I know nothing. For Central East African peoples including those of Uganda I know little. I know little of Tanzania. I know little of Kenya.

Western African peoples

Guinea is little known. Among Southern Coastal West African peoples such as those of Nigeria, Ghana, and Cote d'Ivoire I have no records for this period. I also have no information from Western Coastal West African peoples such as those of Senegal. I lack information on Interior West African peoples such as those of Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali.

Southern African peoples

I know knothing of South Africa, Mozambique, Madagascar, Malawi, Zimbabwe, or Zambia.

Central African peoples

I know little of Congo, Cameroon, or Angola.

American Indian

American Indian peoples have not yet been well examined here. For Cuba I have no definite information.

Middle American Indian peoples

Those of Guatemala can be connected. I have little information on Meso-American peoples such as those of Mexico. I have no information on Southwest American Indian peoples found in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico.

South American Indian peoples

I have no information on Ecuador. I have little information on Andean peoples such as those found in Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Venezuela, and Chile. I have little information on Amazonian peoples such as those found in Brazil and Argentina. I also have little information on Cono/Southern American Indian peoples such as those of Argentina and Chile.

North American Indian peoples

North American Indian peoples such as are found in the United States and Canada are fairly little known. Eastern American Indian peoples can be connected. Western North American Indian peoples can be connected. Northern North American Indian peoples can be connected.

Communities

Communities can be used to examine the 1st century CE, 2nd century CE, 3rd century CE, 4th century CE, and 5th century CE.

Communities such as Khartoum, Boston, Saigon, Toronto Chengtu, Dongguan, Miami, Shenyang, Riyadh, Caracas, Rangoon, Sian, Poona, St. Petersburg, Kuala Lumpur, Nanking, Singapore, Guadalajara, Alexandria, Chittagong, Phoenix, Sydney, Algiers, Harbin can be considered for connection.

Social structure and change

Social structure and change can be used to examine the 1st century CE, 2nd century CE, 3rd century CE, 4th century CE, and 5th century CE.

Social changes

Particular changes and movements can be considered. The agricultural revolution can be connected. The Agrarian revolution including Bronze age developments, early iron age develoments, and late iron age developments can be connected.

Social change processes including innovation, transmission, adaptation, and extinction can be connected. Social change factors including institutional change, cultural change, demographic change, and natural change can be connected.

Social types included hunting and gathering, horticultural, and agrarian types.

Social structure including anthropological structure, cultural structure, institutional structure, and social classes can be considered.
