Early Medieval History

During the early medieval period, Western Europe following the breakup of the Western Roman Empire was repeatedly invaded by peoples from northeastern Europe and Central Asia. These people became converted to Christianity as they settled. The Eastern Roman empire survived in the form of the Byzantine empire. The new religion of Islam originated in Arabia and spread by conquest over nearly the entire middle east, with the exception of areas controlled by the Byzantines, and began spreading into central Asia as well. The early classical empires of China and India also broke up.

Other History

Events of this period are a continuation of late classical times and are continued in the late medieval period. They are also studied in the modern period, including the 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. In the 20th century, study of this period continues from a scholarly point of view, but is not particularly popular. I lack details on discoveries and developments of the early 20th century, early-mid 20th century, mid 20th century, late-mid 20th century, late 20th century, and early 21st century including the early 2000s and the late 2000s. The future of these studies, including the near future, middle future, and far future, is obscure.
