c. 1455 CE Gutenberg develops a movable-type printing press and publishes the Bible.
1469 - 1504 Isabella I of Castille marries Ferdinand of Aragon and helps unite the two kingdoms to form Spain, complete the reconquest of Spain from Muslim rule, and order the expulsion of Jews and Muslims, and sponsors the voyages of Columbus.
c. 1480 - 1519 Leonardo da Vinci creates and imagines works of art, scupture, and engineering.
1492-1504 In four voyages, Columbus brings awareness of the "New World" of the Americas to the "Old World" of Europe and Asia.
1497-1499 da Gama reaches India by sailing around Africa, initiating the European exploration and exploitation of Asia and Africa.
1500 Brazil sighted and claimed for Portugal by Pedro Alvarez Cabral.
