Statistics

Statistics here means mathematical statistics, and has divisions of probability theory, descriptive statistics, and inferential statistics.

Statistics is also used in another sense to refer to data on births, deaths, crime, housing, and so forth. These are more likely to be dealt with in applied science under applied social science.

History is useful in examining statistics. Prehistory, antiquity, and classical and medieval times have limited used. Statistics has chiefly arisen in modern times. The 16th century, 17th century, 18th century, 19th century, and 20th century can be examined. Its future is obscure.
