Occupations

These are adapted from the Standard Occupational Classification published by the US Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. Since the US has the world's largest and most complex economy, this seems an appropriate starting point for discussing occupations.

1492-1504 In four voyages, Columbus brings awareness of the "New World" of the Americas to the "Old World" of Europe and Asia.

1497-1499 da Gama reaches India by sailing around Africa, initiating the European exploration and exploitation of Asia and Africa.

1905 Ford introduces the Model T, which makes automobiles affordable for most American families.

Communication related

These occupations include printing and publishing, electronic media production, and computing.

Industrial occupations

These occupations include mining and forestry, material processing, proeuction and manufacture, some of architecture and enginnerind manufacture, and intallation, maintenance, and repair occupations.

Service occupations

These include health related, business and commercial, entertainment, and institutional related occupations.


This will include connections to science including physics, chemistry, astronomy, earth science, and biology. It is somewhat better connected to personal studies including the human body, psychology, and biography. It is also connected to anthropology including social interaction, demography, physical anthropology, human ecology, human geography, and particular groups.

Other areas of culture including material culture, conceptual culture, and other areas of behavioral culture are closely connected.

This is connected to institutions including families, education, and economics. Government including law, government structure, govrenment activity, and particular governments also provides occupations. Religion including religious beliefs, practices, organization, and particular religions provides numerous examples.

Sociology

social structure and change with social structure and social types is useful. Social change including social change factors, social change processes, and particular changes is also important. Communities such as Tokyo, Seoul, Mexico City, and New York City provide various examples. Peoples of the world including African peoples will provide examples. Nations such as Brazil, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Russia can be connected. Asiatic peoples including those of Indonesia demonstrate examples. South Asian peoples including those of India can be connected. Oriental peoples including those of China demonstrate examples. Western Civilization including the United States demonstrates numerous examples. American Indian peoples such as those found in the United States can also be considered

History

Occupations can be followed beginning in prehistory including early prehistory, middle prehistory, and late prehistory and going through antiquity including the 5th millennium BC, 4th millennium BC, 3rd millennium BC, 2nd millennium BC, and early first millennium BC.

Their classical and medieval history can also be followed. They developed in early classical, late classical, early medieval, and late medieval times.

During modern history, including the 16th century, 17th century, 18th century, and 19th century these became increasingly complex and more specialized. During the 20th century including the early 20th century, early-mid 20th century, mid 20th century, late-mid 20th century, and late 20th century, they have continued to develop. The early 21st century including the early 2000s and late 2000s can be connected. Various of them can be projected into the future.
