The Wright brothers lived and worked in the modern period of history Wilbur and Orville were both born in the 19th century, specifically in the late-mid 19th century. They operated a bicycle shop and studied various attempts at human flight in the late 19th century. Most of their work was done in the 20th century. In the early 20th century they invented the first workable airplane. Wilbur died in this period, while Orville continued to work in the early mid 20th century and died in the mid 20th century.
