Europe (Human)

The human geography of Europe is extremely important. This is divided into sections of Balkans, Italy, Iberia, Northwest Europe, Central Europe, Eastern Europe, European Islands, and Scandinavia.

Balkans

This includes the southern, mountainous portion of the Balkan peninsula, the home of ancient Greece, and some of the various islands in the Mediterranean sea.

Italy

This includes the Italian peninsula into the Alps and the Mediterranean islands of Sardinia and Corsica

Iberia

This includes the Iberian peninsula and the Balearic and Canary Islands.

Northwest Europe

This includes most of what is now France, Germany, Poland, and Denmark.

Island Europe

This includes the British Isles, Iceland, and Greenland.

Central Europe

This includes the area north of the Balkan peninsula, east of the Alps, south of the mountains, and west of the Black Sea.

Eastern Europe

This includes the area east of Poland to the Ural Mountains.

Scandinavia

This includes the scandinavian peninsula.

This depends considerably on areas of science. Physics, chemistry, and astronomy are only weakly connected, but earth science and biology are definitely significant.

It also depends to some extent on personal studies, not much on the human body or psychology, but most particularly on biographies

There are connections with other areas of anthropology including social foundations, demography, physical anthropology, and human ecology.

European geography is physically connected to Asian geography, and the boundary between these two regions is arbitrary. Southwest Asia is adjacent to Europe. Europe is both separated from and connected to African geography by the Mediterranean sea, Similarly, it is separated from and connected to North America and South America by the Atlantic Ocean. Considerable distance separates it from Oceania. Connection to particular groups will also be significant.

European geography is also connected to culture including material culture, conceptual culture, and behavioral culture. Institutions including families, education, economics, government, and religion are also significant.

Sociology

Social structure and change including social structure, social types, and social change may be useful. Communities such ast Tokyo, Seoul, Mexico City, and New York city may be connected. This is also closely connected to peoples of the world. Particular nations including India, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Russia can be connected. It is the original home of Western Civilization. Anglic peoples have spread beyond it, but have long occupied part of it. The United States is indirectly and weakly connected. Parts of it have at times been occupied or governed by some Asiatic peoples, and some of those peoples are still found there. China is weakly connected. Middle Eastern peoples have inhabited parts of Europe. The Jewish peoples, Middle Eastern in origin, are still present.

History

The history of european geography has been considered fascinating to many. It was developed principally through classical and medieval times. It has developed somewhat in modern times. By the 19th century, European geography was well known and the focus is principally on changes in Europe In the 20th century, the focus is on changes in Europe. In the mid-20th century, there were political obstacles to some study of European geography, and in the late-mid 20th century, these continued. In the late 20th century, there will be some attention given to population changes in Europe. The early 2000s may include current events.
