Institutions Applied to Anthropology

Anthropology can be examined using religion, government, economics, education, and families.

   

Institutions

Religion

Particular religious traditions have been influential. Pagan religion including European pagan, Asian pagan, African Pagan, American Indian pagan, and neopagan religion can be connected. Abrahamic religion has been significant. Judaism has been important. Christianity has had a strong influence. Primitive Christianity, Catholicism, Protestantism, Orthodoxy, and Mormonism can all be examined. Islam has been important. Asiatic religion can be examined. Persian religion including Zoroastrianism, Manicheanism, and Mithraism has been less significant than others. Indian religion including Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Jainism can be connected. Oriental religion including Confucianism, Taoism, and Shinto can be considered. Secularism has been influential. Religious organization including unstructured, fragmented, and highly structured organization may have some influence. Religious practice is often based on and influences various areas of anthropology. Religious beliefs are also significant.

Government

Particular governments also illustrates and influences these principles. International government including traditional empires, colonial empires, and modern compacts is also useful. Temporary alliances, special purpose organizations, regional groups, and world governments can be connected. The League of Nations and the United Nations can be considered. National government and local government can be considered. Government activities including are also important. State relations such as warfare, diplomacy, and espionage are connected. Administration can be considered. Succession including election, inheritance, appointment, and siezure can be considered. Government structure including forms of government, heads of government, executive systems, legislative systems, judicial systems, and political parties often illustrates principles of anthropology. Law including international law, Western law, Asiatic law, and tribal law has some connection to anthropology.

Economics

Economic systems including economic system behavior, types of systems, networks, and firms will be influential. Industries using particular companies such as Toyota Motor, Chevron, ING, Total, and including agricultural, extraction and manufacturing with companies such as Exxon, Royal Dutch Shell, and BP, construction, transportation, communications, social and medical services, and commercial services such as Wal-Mart will be useful. Economic activities such as production, distribution, and consumption will also be influential.

Education

Particular schools can be connected. Higher education with schools such as Harvard, Cambridge, Standford, and UC Berkely, secondary schools, and primary schools can be connected. Educational organization including administration, faculty, students, and course material can be connected. Cultural institutions such as performance venues, museums, and libraries can be connected. Teaching is important. Research is important.

Families

Particular families, kinship, parenting, and marriage are important in anthropology.
